You Can Eat Healthily on a Student Budget

You are away from home for the first time and have to look after yourself. Oh, the temptation to take advantage of those home delivery services. From pizza to Chinese the choice is delicious. Do not forget though that although the food may taste great, they are not bursting with vitamins and minerals to keep you healthy.

If you find it difficult to stay awake during classes, it may be due to your poor diet and not just the lecturer. There is a good probability you will be suffering from more coughs and colds than you did at home. Without the essential vitamins, minerals and proteins so often lacking in fast food you could be unwell.

The key to you fighting off illnesses is your immune system. This is fed, nurtured and supported by a regular intake of vitamins and minerals. Knowing this, you may be tempted to dash out and buy bottles of multivitamins, but really it is best to eat healthily instead and get them from there.

For example, vitamin C is found in many fruits, vitamin A in milk and wider dairy products and vitamin E is present in many nuts such as Brazil, walnuts and almonds. It is not too hard to eat some of these each day and top up your vitamin levels.

Do not fall into the trap of drinking sodas all the time. They may taste great but swap one or two for fruit juice instead. Sodas are full of chemicals, calories and sugar. Avoid the French fries and have vegetables instead. Or go for mashed potato or even salads sometimes.

You do not have to eat healthily all the time, thank goodness. If 80% of the time your diet is good, you can treat yourself a bit for the other 20%.
